ahhhh saturday. i’ve been very sleepy this week. i went to a rays game tuesday night therefore was out late causing me to drag the remainder of the week. bleh. at least we won. :)
i got up this morning at 7, let my dog out, ate and read my Bible. then went back to bed until 11. i never do that. but it was quite nice.
it was a good week. crazy here and there, but good. my seniors are done. tuesday was our last day together. i hope they manage out in a world that won’t coddle them. we’re certainly not doing them any favors. though…we can only do so much. we coddle because the district is terrified of getting sued by parents who have created coddled and entitled children. students were caught having sex in the portable boy’s bathroom this week. the repercusions: 5 days oss. which is being appealed. what a joke. 5 days oss. they should be expelled. the public school disciplinary system is so ridiculously laughable. since we’re at the end of the year the discipline measures mostly include “loss of privileges.” “loss of privileges” includes not being permitted to attend the last 2 days of school. they kids were laughing about it yesterday; most kids don’t come those last 2 days anyway. the system is just doing them a favor because now they don’t even have to attempt to coerce their parents into allowing them to stay home. education needs its teeth back. but see, a part of our school grade is dependent upon how many days kids spend in iss/oss, so the more disciplinary days the more likely it is for our grade to falter. which is obnoxious. the students aren’t afraid of anything because there are never any legitimate ramifications for their actions. if we could actually mete out consequences then there would be less poor behavior and less iss/oss days. it’s so frustrating.
many of us have thoroughly had it with electronics. i hate to completely ban them next year and be a total nazi about it, but that seems to be what’s necessary. kids answer their phones in class because their parents are calling and then get upset when they’re told to get off the phone immediately that if their mommy or daddy needs to reach them then they can phone the school and not interupt their child’s class. i don’t know the difference of teaching pre and post cell phone age, when i graduated i only knew 1 person with a phone and she never dared turn it on at school, but i can only imagine what teachers who have been in the field 15 plus years must think.
so much revising to do for next year…
